Rob Miedema


Rob Miedema leads the legal practice at Harbinger Law, specializing in corporate, tax and charity law, as well as estate planning. He has been peer-rated and recognized as one of “The Best Lawyers in Canada” in tax law (2016-2025), trusts and estates (2017-2025), corporate law (2018-2025) and mergers and acquisitions (2020-2025). Earlier in his career, he was also peer-rated and recognized with a L’Expert Rising Star Award as one of “Canada’s Leading Lawyers Under 40” (2014).

After teaching graduate courses for two years in Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Management (2008-2009), Rob became a sessional instructor at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, teaching nine courses in business association law and one course in environmental law (2010-2019).

Rob is the editor of Nova Scotia Companies Act & Commentary (2023) and two prior editions, published by LexisNexis Canada. He writes and lectures frequently about various topics within his practice areas.

Rob is a graduate of Queen's University and the Dalhousie University Law School. He was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2006 and the Law Society of Newfoundland & Labrador in 2023. Rob practiced in a leading regional law firm for more than 15 years and held a senior leadership position there before joining Harbinger Law to explore new ideas about the delivery of legal services.

Amy Gibson Saab


Amy Gibson Saab is a leader of the legal practice at Harbinger Law. She focuses on tax issues for business owners, including incorporation, reorganization, acquisition, succession planning, trusts and estate planning, and has been recognized as one of "The Best Lawyers in Canada" in tax law (2025).

Amy has presented on a variety of topics, including corporate structuring, shareholders’ relations and income tax matters. She is deeply invested in augmenting her expertise via ongoing professional development and has completed Parts I, II and III of the In-Depth Tax Course offered by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, as well as the advanced course on In-Depth Tax Issues for the Owner-Managed Business.

Amy received her law degree from the University of New Brunswick. She was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2010 and subsequently admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in 2022. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (History) from Dalhousie University. She practiced in a leading regional law firm for more than 10 years before joining Harbinger Law to explore new ideas about the delivery of legal services.

Jacqueline Ruck


Jacqueline Ruck is a partner at Harbinger Law focusing on mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, corporate governance, charity law, and assisting clients navigating day-to-day corporate needs. She was recognized as one of "The Best Lawyers in Canada" for mergers and acquisitions (2025).

Jacqueline obtained a certificate of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Cornell University in 2023. She prepares diversity policies for organizations looking to align values with governance. Jacqueline also assists clients with implementing these policies effectively and meaningfully.

Jacqueline is committed to mentorship and has served as a mentor to law students through the Dalhousie Feminist Legal Association. She also enjoys presenting on various topics to diverse audiences including law students, business owners, and lawyers.

Jacqueline received her law degree from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2014. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts, Honours, from the Faculty of Political Science, Public Affairs and Management at Carleton University. She practiced corporate law at a leading regional law firm for almost a decade before joining the Harbinger Law team in 2023.

Laura Jacquard


Laura has been a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Bar since 2020, joining Harbinger Law in 2021. In her work as associate lawyer, she is committed to assisting clients resolve issues with practical advice and strives to make them feel every matter is given the close attention it deserves.

She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science with Honours (Psychology) from Acadia University in 2013. Four years later, Laura earned her Juris Doctor degree from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Although she grew up in the Kentville area, Laura’s education took her on a circuitous route before she returned to Nova Scotia and began her current role at Harbinger Law.

Jenny Kooren


Jenny joined Harbinger Law as an associate in 2023. Prior to joining the Harbinger Law team, Jenny spent twelve years as a member of the family law team at a firm in downtown Dartmouth, first as a summer student and then as an articling clerk and associate, before the firm merged with another downtown Dartmouth firm in 2020. Following the merger, Jenny accepted an opportunity to explore another area of law and transitioned to a practice focused on corporate law and estate planning.

Jenny received her law degree from Dalhousie University in 2010 and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2011. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Classics and Art History) from Queen’s University. From Ontario originally, Jenny loves Nova Scotia, and Lunenburg especially has her heart.
